Let me take the opportunity to introduce to you all probably one of the most criminally under-appreciated singer-songwriters of the last few years, Sondre Lerche. Duper Sessions is Sondre’s third studio release through Astrelworks. The 23-year old Norwegian’s first two releases Faces Down and Two Way Monologue were two hidden gems that largely went unnoticed by the general listening public.
When it was announced that on his latest album that his pop singer-songwriter style would shift towards straight up Jazz vocals and include some quality classical instrumentation courtesy of the Faces Down Quartet, i was a bit skeptical albeit intrigued by this. I first listened to it at a Tower Records in Atlanta around the time of it’s release and was turned off by it. After that first listened i shrugged it off and didn’t bother with it again till i purchased it (I had to, it’s Sondre ok) a few weeks ago. I came to realize the mistake I made, when i was able to fully listen to this album at work. Not listening through it completely was a mistake, because it needs to be fully heard to appreciate everything it has to offer. Just listening to the lead single “Minor Detail” and you’ve got pure melodic pop songwriting genius, simply one of Sondre’s best. This just continuous throughout the entire album. Obviously I highly recommend it, otherwise i wouldn’t bother posting it. Here are some mp3s for your listenign pleasure, including the wonderful song i just mentioned “Minor Detail”.

Also, sorry to break the news to you folks. I don’t review albums often. I mean I will, but not for like a few months after release. There’s a reason behind this. For one, i’m not rich therefore i don’t buy albums on release day unless there’s one that just puts me in a “Gotta Have It!” mentallity, and that just doesn’t happen quite often. Otherwise albums just sit on my radar for a while until i give in and purchase or just forget about it completely. Anyways, maybe someone else here can do the album reviews more often. Just not going to be me.

Duper Sessions was somewhat bad in my opinion… it doesn’t even come close to two way monologue
I’m not saying it’s his best album, i just didn’t give it a chance. I personally like Faces Down though
