The first time that most people probably heard of the French (Did you know they were French? Seriously?) band Phoenix was on the film Lost in Translation during the karoake scene which played the song “Too Young” from their debut album United. A really catchy tune yea? But easy to dismiss as a one-hit wonder i’m sure. To those who didn’t listen past that one song have missed out. In 2004, they released their second album Alphabet which I would like to say was one of the best albums of that year.

While frontman Thomas Mars is not busy making babies with Sofia Coppola, they will be bringing their uptempo dance pop (i made that up) on their third release It’s Never Been Like That due out on May 23rd through Astralwerks. Most of the songs have been floating around the internet recently, but i’ve got one song off the album to upload for you. It’s not a bad song, it starts off slow but has a really catchy chorus with decent beats and guitar riffs. Also including “Everythign is Everything” off of Alphabet.

I also came across a new Camera Obscura single on You Ain’t No Picasso , the title track to the upcoming album Let’s Get Out of this Country due out sometime in June through Merge. The followup to their last album Underachievers Please Try Harder which was another great album from 2004. The way i’d like to describe them is just imagine a completely female fronted Belle & Sebastian and you’re already almost there. I really love this single, i’ve had it on repeat all day at work. It has a really breezy, spring time sound to it. Definitely a song to drive around and have playing. I definitely recommend listening to this single.

I’ve got one more song for you. I’ve been going crazy over it all day. The song is called “Hung Up On Soul” which is a remix mashup song from Partyben. I’m only making a big deal out of it because it contains “Hung Up” from Madonna. I think all of last year i suffered much ridicule over enjoying that song sadly. I mean come on! It’s a fucking awesome pop song. People who don’t agree are just lying to themselves. You can’t be a fan of music if you can’t appreciate good pop songs like that. Oh yea, the other song is “Soul Meet’s Body” from Death Cab for Cutie. You know? It’s really good! Gotta listen to this, even “Hung Up” haters.
